Here’s what you expect from Martin Garrix:
Martijn Gerard Garritsen needs no introduction. In a matter of 10 years, he’s risen to peak global stardom in both electronic and pop circles –and he’s far from being done. As a musical visionary and innovator, with a bright, ever-evolving sound that explores progressive and big room house, electro, future bass, and more, Martin Garrix has headlined festivals around the globe, founded a label and mentored other artists, and won the #1 spot in DJ Mag’s Top 100 in three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018. Beyond that, he’s published a book and has spearheaded multiple philanthropic initiatives supporting causes such as access to education and cancer research.
Marrix’s story begins in 2004, age 8, when he was captivated by Tiësto performing at the Olympic Games opening ceremony. By his mid-teens, Garrix had taught himself how to produce and play his own songs. In 2013, he released the track that would change everything. ‘Animals’, released June, 2013 was a breakout success and a game changer for the music industry. Reaching No. 1 in the UK and Top Ten in eight other countries, it proved that a hard-hitting, dancefloor-oriented track could reach pop status, ultimately reaching multi-platinum status and over a billion streams across several platforms. It also proved that Garrix, at only 17, had the talent to become a world-class musician.
In the years to follow, he continued to reach top charts with numerous releases like 2015’s ‘Don’t Look Down’ featuring Usher and “Rewind Repeat It” with Ed Sheeran. His list of collaborations also includes David Guetta, Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Dillon Francis, Dua Lipa, Sander van Doorn, Avicii, Khalid, and more.
On 4 March, 2016, still not yet 20 years old he founded STMPD RCRDS, a label that elevates fresh sounds from popular sub genres like house, trap, trip hop, and future bass as well as music from up-and-coming European artists. To say the least, Garrix’s unrivaled mad-about-music mentality ensures that, at only 24, he still has a lifetime of achievements ahead of him.
