Following a few months of development, The CW has given a pilot order to the Naomi series from Ava DuVernay.

First news of a possible Naomi series was announced in Dec. of last year. At the time, the series was described to take the character to “the heights of the multiverse.” After her small Northwestern town is shaken by a supernatural event, she investigates the mystery “and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes.”

The Naomi comic was co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, with illustrations by Jamal Campbell. The character made her debut in 2019 in Naomi: Season One.

This marks the second DC-related television project for DuVernay, as she already has DMZ moving forward at HBO Max as a limited series. She is also working on a film adaptation of New Gods for Warner Bros.

Naomi will also mark the first DC-related project for The CW not being produced by Berlanti Productions. Instead, Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes from Array will serve as producers.
