(EW) – “Madame President, we have a situation.”
The first trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ new action-thriller G20 kicks off with this promising opening line and features Viola Davis kicking a ton of butt — and saving the world in the process.
The Oscar-winner stars as Danielle Sutton, the sitting president of the United States with a military past. A framed cover of Combat Heroes magazine features Davis’ Sutton holding a limp body amid a chaotic warzone, paired with the caption, “Fallujah Under Seige.”
Sutton informs her husband (Anthony Anderson) and children (Marsai Martin and Christopher Farrar) that they’ll be accompanying her to Cape Town, South Africa, for the annual G20 summit. Her eldest, Serena (Martin) has been taking one too many tips from the Bush daughters’ playbook, so Sutton wants her watchful eye on them at all times.
That’s where things go wrong.
As heads of state from around the world assemble, so too does a terrorist unit bent the execution of a nefarious plot called “Project Deepfake.”
“To the governments watching, I’ve taken the G20 by force,” a villainous Rutledge (Antony Starr) says over livestream to a command room of nervous-looking American officials. “When we launch Project Deepfake, we will reset the world’s financial markets.”
Little do Rutledge and his henchmen know, separating Davis from her husband and kids has launched her into a no-holds-barred survival state. “If you want to live you’ll follow my lead,” she commands her fellow dignitaries, as she kicks, shoots, and pan-fries (seriously, watch the trailer) her would-be captors.
